Teeth Whitening

Patient with special blue light over teeth for teeth whitening procedure.

Bleaching, often known as teeth whitening, is an easy, non-invasive dental procedure that is used to alter the shade of natural tooth enamel and is a great way to enhance the look of your teeth.

There are several techniques to whiten teeth because this is now one of the most common cosmetic concern among patients. The most commonly used technique is employing a home teeth-whitening equipment which will significantly whiten teeth. The replacement of any outdated fillings, crowns, etc. should be carefully considered because tooth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel. Any restorations that need to be replaced after bleaching will be done so they match the freshly bleached teeth.

Teeth whitening is not a long-term solution. If you smoke, consume coffee, tea, or alcohol, you will need a touch-up every few years.

The Benefits of Teeth Whitening

  • Fluorosis  (excessive fluoridation during tooth development).
  • Normal wear and tear on the enamel.
  • Medication-induced tooth stains (tetracycline, etc.)
  • Teeth with brown and yellow stains.

What is involved in teeth whitening?

There are two methods to do this procedure: in-office or take-home. The Brilliance in-office process lasts for around an hour. It entails applying whitening gel to your teeth. During the treatment, a shield is placed over the gums to guard against any harm. The whitening gel is securely used at 20 minute intervals while being activated by a blue light until satisfactory whitening results are obtained.

The take-home whitening kit requires the creation of personalized, transparent plastic trays using imprints of the patient’s teeth. Depending on the severity of the staining and the desired amount of whitening, the trays are worn with a particular whitening solution either twice daily for 30 minutes or overnight for a few weeks. Upon arrival, you will get information on how to take care of your trays and teeth.
