What is Endodontics?

The Greek terms “endo,” which means within, and “odons,” which means tooth, are the source of the word “endodontics.” These terms, when combined, imply research on the dental pulp or the inner portion of teeth. Specialists in endodontics near you are knowledgeable about several conditions that affect the dental pulp and how to treat them.

The dental pulp is located at the root of the tooth. The tooth’s enamel, which covers its outermost layer, and the dentin, which sits underneath it, both serve to safeguard the pulp. The pulp is shielded from infection by germs found in the mouth by this tough covering.

The dental pulp is exposed to these bacteria as well as to hot and cold temperatures when tooth decay occurs because the outer layer of the tooth erodes away to generate holes or cavities. Due to the pulp’s abundance of nerves and blood arteries, an infection can cause sensitivity and toothache.
