What Causes Bruxism?

Bruxism is the grinding of the teeth and is commonly linked to factors such as stress, anxiety, smoking, sleep apnea, snoring, and fatigue. Recommended treatment includes the use of a small mouth-piece that snaps firmly over the upper or lower anterior teeth to prevent damage due to clenching and grinding. Symptoms of bruxism include:

  • Constant dull headache
  • Sore Jaw
  • Excessive wear on teeth
  • Loose or fractured teeth

If you suspect you may be grinding your teeth, it’s a good idea to visit your doctor and our dental office for treatment. We can fit you with a customized appliance, commonly referred to as a splint, or night guard and repair any existing dental damage. Contact our office today for a comprehensive evaluation.
